Menswear AW10: Maison Martin Margiela

The latest collection of Maison Martin Margiela Menswear- or 10, if you’re in the MMM know- comprised fabulous textures, amazing prints and a whole lotta leather. The tired-looking models carried the clothes off perfectly- the suits fell perfectly, with the relaxed trousers and leather vests meaning that no pretention whatsoever was given off from these stunning pieces. Metallics and studs paired with collared coats, duffels, trenches and overcoats to make this collection perfectly seasonal, and turtlenecks, boots and the greys and blacks made the clothes on-trend.

Love you, Martin Margiela. Whoever you are…

Menswear AW10: Comme des Garçons

The natural quirk of Comme des Garçons is, as always, so evident in their new Menswear collection. Think odd but good shoes, turn-ups, colourful socks and stunning double-breasted blazers. Prints, polka-dots and stripes lifted three- and four-piece suits to their to-die-for status, sweaters allowed edge of Comme to be accessible and fur and fur-lined hoods gave the collection a dash of luxury. Vests hinted at a sporty, utility look that was amplified by the use of buckles and fastenings.

Delightful.

Menswear AW10: Rick Owens and Givenchy

Fur-lined leather, get into my life. High gloves and even higher necks set the tone of the Rick Owens show in Paris today- again; a sporty but refined air came across: grey pants and well-cut knits gave off the active edge whilst metallics, furs and boots gave the collection its decadent feel. The jackets and coats are amazing, zooming to the top of my (admittedly very long) wish list. Spotted: more perforated leather, long corded blazers and cropped trousers. Rick Owens, I love you.

The kilt hits Givenchy. And, if you so desire, in velvet: which, by the way, is shaping up to be huge this season. A religious theme was mirrored by thorn crowns and slogan tees- ‘Jesus is Lord’- yes, a little controversial. Skin-tight trousers with sandals, coats with hoods and double-breasted blazers kicked off a show that encompassed a lot of the trends- patterned trousers, white shirts, quilted leather and sheepskin.

Parfait!

Menswear AW10: Etro, Dsquared² and Pringle of Scotland

A quick-fire post of some Milan shows, take a look:

Etro- Hot prints and hotter outerwear made this collection a Milan masterpiece. The models had cool hair and the contemporary elegance of the designs shone right the way through the show. Quilted jackets, snappy suits and gorgeous leather.

Dsquared²- Hello, feathers. I love you. A twist of Italy meets cartoon-chic, in a good way. Leather, white shirts, delicate tees and blood-spattered hunks.

Pringle of Scotland- Knittastic.

Menswear AW10: Viktor & Rolf and Louis Vuitton

Viktor & Rolf sprung onto the runway in Paris with a sophisticated collection of staple outerwear, trendy knits and, urm, glasses.  A kinda quirky, business look was achieved through the use of a palette of greys and blacks, and classic blazers and pockerchiefs gave the collection charm. Pleated cotton pants played on the active trend of this Fall’s collections, as did chunky knit scarves and sweaters. Printed suits (and smoking jackets) combined with contrasted strips afforded the collection a peppering of vibrancy. PS: Turn ups. Truly lovely stuff, have a look:

Louis Vuitton’s landmark leathers made their menswear collection shine- the bags this season are truly fabulous, I wish I could afford them! The simplistic vibe of the collection was fused with the basic presentation of the runway, assuring the focus of the show would be the clothes. Outerwear was toned down by the use of monochromatic colouring, hinting at the masculinity of the design.

Trendwise, the collection comprised leather boots, sheepskin, sweaters, printed shirts and sporty gilets- meaning Louis Vuitton showcased amazing pieces that were sure to be well-received. Best? A brown suit: think ranch-owner meets officer circa the forties:
